Statement: “If you’re worried about the cost of living, housing or climate crisis, you’re not alone.
Instead of working for you, Labor and the Liberals have taken millions in donations from supermarket giants, the big banks, and coal corporations.
We can’t keep voting for the same two parties and expecting a different result.
More Greens in parliament will keep Dutton out and get Labor to act.”
Will your party commit to allowing religious schools and other religious institutions to recruit staff and implement policies which reflect…
The Greens have not provided a response to ACL’s questionnaire. The Green’s stated election policy is to actively seek removal of discrimination law exemptions regarding religious institutions in order to to ‘End LGBTIQA+ Discrimination’. This reveals that Greens believe that Christians who uphold their theological beliefs as it pertains to their belief in male and female, and in heterosexuality- are discriminating. The Greens believe that any protections Christians currently have in their outworking of these beliefs in public organisations should be removed. This would remove protections for faith-based schools. . It is noted that in 2022 Labor and the Greens voted as a party position to remove key protections in s38(3) for Christian schools.

In NSW, the Greens have introduced a bill that creates challenges for those who conscientiously object to abortion.

Does your party intend to restore the definition of a woman in the Sex Discrimination Act to be based on…
The Greens have not provided a response to ACL’s questionnaire. The Greens have committed strongly to the cause of “trans rights”, which makes it extremely unlikely they would consider restoring the sex-based definition of “woman” in the SDA. The Greens support policy that enables people to alter their legal documents to reflect a self-identified gender. The Greens advocated removing “discrimination against transgender and gender diverse athletes” in both competitive and community-level sport. The Victorian branch of the Greens Party has approved a “code of conduct”, which prevents its members advocating for women’s sex-based rights on the grounds that such advocacy constitutes “transphobia”. These policies have divided the party, causing several long-standing feminist Greens members to leave. In 2019 the Greens statements indicated plans to legislate the introduction of all-gender toilets in workplaces.

The Greens have not provided a response to ACL’s questionnaire. The Greens have no specific policy however there is general policy regarding reproductive health and fertility (in contrast to other policy they have regarding contraceptives and abortion). In previous years the Greens policy included that Australia must contribute to achieving a globally sustainable population and encourage and support other nations to do the same due to environmental and sustainability concerns. Their stated policy is to support the involvement of parents in both paid and unpaid employment and further ‘bold’ paid parental leave (PPL) reform, although other policy also advocates for free universal child care. The Greens also recognise the value of unpaid work performed by parents and advocate for parents to have the opportunity to care for their children and be supported by PPL and superannuation while doing so. The Greens’ policy regarding gender equality and empowerment of women12 states “Women have the right to make informed choices about all aspects of their lives, including … child-rearing, and how they participate in paid work and any caring responsibilities.” However according to the Greens, woman’s rights includes the right to abort their child. Even though the Greens have generous policies, the push for increased access to abortion undermines real support for families.

Will your party push for an inquiry into the connection between a legalised or decriminalised sex industry and human sex…
The Greens have not provided a response to ACL’s questionnaire. The Greens’ policy regarding immigration and refugees does not refer to sex trafficking, however states that the Greens are seeking strengthened protections for migrant workers, including increasing civil penalties for organisations that are non-compliant, and imposing criminal charges on organisations that engage in systemic wage underpayment, modern slavery and trafficking”. The Greens also propose that Australia’s anti-slavery framework to be expanded to include labour law reforms. Their policy to decriminalise sex work and that the sex work should be recognised and valued the same as other work weakens their stance against slavery, given that a decriminalised sex industry increases human sex trafficking.

Will your party support an inquiry into annual spending on “Closing the Gap”, including an audit of privately controlled entities…
The Greens have not provided a response to ACL’s questionnaire. The Greens Party has an extensive range of policies in relation to First Nations peoples including general policy committing to “hold governments to account for implementing the Closing the Gap targets.” In December 2024, they put forward a motion to establish a Senate Committee to evaluate the ‘Closing the Gap’ targets that are declining or not progressing, including how they are funded, with the goal of ‘Federal accountability’. However, the Greens did not support the motion during The Voice Referendum campaign for an audit of government spending on Indigenous programs. The Greens ideological lean to identity politics weakens real empowerment of Indigenous peoples.

The Greens stated policy is to increase the level of Australian overseas development assistance to a minimum of 0.7% of Gross National Income, with provision for increases in the event of natural disasters or conflicts requiring ‘major humanitarian interventions’ and ‘climate reparations’. The Greens’ International Development Assistance policy contains policies which may be controversial, including regarding those regarding climate change, gender equality and feminism, gender, sexuality and diversity, decolonization, reparations and colonialism rather than promoting what countries themselves have indicated that they need or aligning with the country’s values and culture.
