Protection of Faith-Based Schools

Will your party commit to allowing religious schools and other religious institutions to recruit staff and implement policies which reflect their ethos? 

Party Response:

Faith-based schools must be free to hire staff who uphold the religious ethos of the parents they serve. The Australian Law Reform Commission’s proposal to strip these schools of the right to select staff based on faith and values is an attack on religious freedom. Family First will fight for the restoration of robust religious protections in the Sex Discrimination Act and will push for a Religious Discrimination Bill that genuinely defends the rights of faith-based schools.

Will your party commit to protecting free speech in Australia by not introducing laws that will further erode religious freedom and freedom of speech? 

Party Response:

Family First will protect free speech and will also go beyond this to restore already lost freedom of speech by fighting to repeal subjective provisions of anti-discrimination, anti-vilification and “hate speech” laws which criminalise free speech and which have a chilling effect on it. Limits should only be placed on speech that incites violence. Family First opposes any expansion of laws that suppress free expression, especially those that give unelected bureaucrats such as the e-Safety Commissioner the power to censor public debate.

Party Response:

The redefinition of “man” and “woman” in law has undermined women’s and girls’ rights. Family First will work to restore biological definitions in the Sex Discrimination Act and protect women’s spaces, sports, and opportunities from radical gender ideology.

The “Consent and Respectful Relationships” program promotes harmful gender ideology in schools. Family First will demand a full review to remove all references to gender fluidity and dangerous medical interventions for children. Family First will also ensure that any such programs promote the benefits of heterosexual monogamous marriage.

What steps will your party take to ensure the national curriculum does not contain matters that are not factual or evidence-based? 

Party Response:

Family First Director Lyle Shelton states: “Education should be based on facts, not political ideology. The national curriculum is increasingly a vehicle for radical race theory, gender ideology, and climate alarmism. Family First will work to remove this dogma from the curriculum. Family First will ensure students are taught the richness of the Western tradition and to be proud of the civilisation it has created.”

Will your party commit to an audit of all Australian Government departments’ DEI policies, guides, and training to ensure they are implemented based on a genuine commitment to fairness, capability and respect for all, rather than identity-based diversity policies that favour particular groups and individuals over others?  

Party Response:

Family First abolish all DEI programs in Government Departments. Family First will also fight to have ACON de-funded. Government hiring should be based on merit, not race, gender, sexuality or sexual identity.

Does your party consider that children and adolescents under 18 years of age should be allowed to take puberty blockers and cross–sex hormones, and undergo surgery to remove breasts and other sex organs?

Party Response:

Family First believes the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and so-called “gender affirmation surgery” on children is child abuse. Family First supports an immediate ban on these experimental treatments, as has been done in the UK and other nations. A Royal Commission into Australia’s gender clinics should also be held so medical practitioners engaging in these practices can be brought to account.

What initiatives are your party planning to implement to increase the Australian birth rate and to support parents wishing to stay at home and care for their children? 

Party Response:

Family First will always fight for policies that encourage marriage and family formation. Family First supports tax reforms, such as family income splitting, and incentives that allow parents, particularly mothers, to care for their children at home during their early years. Paid parental leave must be made more generous and childcare subsidies should be applied to the family so parents have the option of caring for their children at home. Family First will work to make housing affordable again so that it is possible for a family to pay off a home on one wage, allowing a mother (or a father) the choice of working in the home to care for children. If families could prosper on one wage in previous generations, the political will for policy solutions can and must be found again for our children and grandchildren’s generations.

What steps does your party propose to take to reduce homelessness in Australia? 

Party Response:

The housing crisis is driven in large part by too much immigration. Immigration must be reduced to free up housing supply. Land must urgently be released and red tape cut so more housing can be built. A generous welfare safety net must be maintained for those who find themselves homeless because of addiction issues or domestic violence. Local community groups such as churches and charities should be incentivised to care for the homeless in their area. No one should be left behind.

Legalised prostitution fuels human trafficking. Family First supports an inquiry into the link between decriminalised prostitution and sex slavery, but Family First would simultaneously move to immediately adopt the Nordic model of criminalising buyers of sex, not vulnerable women.

Given the current levels of poverty and humanitarian need around the world, and the concern regarding aid budget being used ideologically, does your party plan to increase foreign aid as a percentage of the Federal Budget to meet desperate international needs, targeting it where it’s practically required, ensuring it’s not influenced by ideology?   

Party Response:

Family First address to an increase of Australia’s overseas aid to 1% and states that the government should prioritise genuine humanitarian needs, not ideological agendas. Family First supports increasing aid where it directly benefits vulnerable communities but opposes funding for activist-driven programs which have funded terrorism in Gaza through UNWRA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) or abortions in poor countries.
